STRANDED SEA LION RESCUED FROM SEATTLE BEACH
(April 19, 2010)
Seal Sitters responded to reports of a stranded sea lion on Golden Gardens beach in Ballard. The injured and underweight California sea lion was removed from the beach by NOAA and WDFW. The sea lion died overnight and necropsy revealed a broken sternum and internal bleeding. All related stories and news videos here.
HSUS OFFERS REWARD FOR SEA LION SHOOTINGS IN SEATTLE

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is offering a $2500 reward for information regarding the shooting of sea lions in the Seattle area.

SEAL SITTER FOUNDER BRENDA PETERSON NEW BOOK RELEASE
Seal Sitters founder and renowned author Brenda Peterson is the cover story of City Arts magazine (Feb 2010), where she discusses her newest book I Want to be Left Behind: Finding Rapture Here on Earth. Two chapters in the memoir are about seals and seal sitting. The book has received national acclaim and has been named to the Indie list of best books of 2010. Brenda will be reading from her book at a number of area bookstores in February before leaving on a book tour.
SEAL SITTER SCIENTIFIC ADVISOR TONI FROHOFF IN THE NEWS
Seal Sitters founding member and scientific advisor, Dr. Toni Frohoff of TerraMar Research, has been receiving much media attention in the past few months. She was a featured story in the December issue of Santa Barbara magazine where she discusses her newest project, POD (Protect Our Dolphins), based in Santa Barbara. Toni received worldwide exposure in a New York Times magazine article about watching gray whales in the birthing lagoons of Baja, Mexico. The list grows to include Discovery Channel and Muse magazines, as well as a feature in a Greek magazine and NPR radio interview about the whales.

SEAL PUP REHAB AND RELEASE
(March 2008)
This little seal pup was “on death’s door” when found by a Seal Sitter volunteer, rescued from a West Seattle beach by PAWS and taken to their facility for rehab. Weighing a mere 28 pounds at the time and suffering from parasitic infestation, he was a respectable 70-pound ball of blubber when released back into Puget Sound two months later. Here “Lucky” looks back to thank PAWS staffers and the SS volunteer before swimming off with a second chance at life.
