MARINE MAMMAL PROTECTION ACT (MMPA)

The Marine Mammal Protection Act was passed by Congress in 1972 to protect marine mammals in our oceans and on our shores from harassment and harm. Seal Sitters works in partnership with NOAA to educate the public about the laws enacted to ensure that seals and sea lions are provided a safe haven to rest on the beaches of Puget Sound and Elliott Bay. In addition to pinnipeds, the MMPA protects whales, dolphins, polar bears, manatees, dugongs and sea otters.
